Tomorrow you start high school in Springfield. How exciting! Here's my advice: Sleep at least eight hours. Put your phone far from your bed and go to bed at the same time every night. In the morning, eat a good breakfast: make oatmeal or eggs with a tortilla. Exercise with your friends and go outside on weekends. If you have a problem, be patient and talk to someone you trust. Always say what you feel. If you're stressed, breathe deeply and relax a little. Go to the nurse if you feel sick. And above all, be yourself. And come visit me on Saturday! A hug, Valeria
15 mandatos.
ella come → ¡Come bien! · él duerme → ¡Duerme más!
The regular affirmative tú command is the same as the él/ella present form.
2La regla
Mandatos regulares y de cambio de raíz
| Infinitivo | él / ella (presente) | Mandato tú (+) | Ejemplo |
|---|---|---|---|
| comer | come | come | Come una fruta en la merienda. |
| escribir | escribe | escribe | Escribe tu diario de comidas. |
| dormir (o→ue) | duerme | duerme | Duerme ocho horas. |
| jugar (u→ue) | juega | juega | Juega al aire libre. |
Los 8 irregulares
| Infinitivo | Mandato tú (+) | Ejemplo | English |
|---|---|---|---|
| decir | di | Di la verdad. | Tell the truth. |
| hacer | haz | Haz ejercicio. | Exercise. |
| ir | ve | Ve al médico. | Go to the doctor. |
| poner | pon | Pon el teléfono lejos. | Put your phone far away. |
| salir | sal | Sal a caminar. | Go out for a walk. |
| ser | sé | Sé paciente. | Be patient. |
| tener | ten | Ten cuidado. | Be careful. |
| venir | ven | Ven a mi casa. | Come to my house. |
Memory trick: «Di-haz-ve-pon, sal-sé-ten-ven». Note: sé (be) has an accent to distinguish it from the pronoun se.
With reflexive verbs, attach te to the end of the command. Add a written accent to keep the stress on the same syllable (relájate). One-syllable commands don't need it (ponte, vete).

6¿Mito o realidad?
Errores comunes con los mandatos. Vota: ¿mito o realidad? Common mistakes with commands — vote: myth or fact?
Correcto: ¡Come bien! ¡Bebe agua!
¡Vete a dormir!
«Para decir “Have patience!”, usamos ¡Tiene paciencia!»
Correcto: ¡Ten paciencia!
