Pacing guide: Assessment · All modes · Grammar: — · Product: Unit 4 IPA: interpretive reading + interpersonal conversation

  1. Instrucciones (4 min): Explain the three parts and timing. Strategy poll. Students may not use translators; the EN button stays off.
  2. Interpretivo (18 min): Students read silently and answer the 10 MC items on paper or device (exam mode: no instant feedback). Do not read the article aloud. Reveal answers only after everyone finishes, or the next day.
  3. Interpersonal (20 min): While students do the reading/writing, call pairs one at a time (≈3 min each) or run all pairs simultaneously with audio recording. Draw a card; 2–3 minutes of conversation. Score with the rubric.
  4. Presentacional (8 min): Short written response connected to the reading. Students who finish the interpersonal task early continue here.
  5. Reflexión (5 min): Self-assessment scale and one sentence about what helped them most this unit.

Interpretive reading is original and recycles unit topics (sleep, screens, movement, food, stress, help-seeking) with commands and pronouns in context. MC answer key: 1 C, 2 A, 3 D, 4 B, 5 C, 6 A, 7 D, 8 B, 9 C, 10 B. Interpersonal: pairs draw a card; both roles must ask questions, react and give advice with commands. If your class is large, use two class periods for conversations or record them. The written task is optional if time is short (then score only interpretive + interpersonal, as in the pacing guide).

Idea clave

No translators or notes. If you don't know a word, keep reading. In the conversation, explain words you don't know with other words («it's a thing you use to…»).

¿Cuál vas a probar primero?

«Voces» school magazine, San Martín School, Bogotá. Do you think you don't have time to take care of yourself? Between classes, homework, sports and work, many students feel the day doesn't have enough hours. But well-being doesn't always take a lot of time. We asked the school psychologist, Dr. Marcela Ruiz, and several students what young people can do in just five minutes.

1. In the morning: water first. «Many kids arrive at school without breakfast and without drinking anything», explains Dr. Ruiz. «If you're not hungry early, at least drink a glass of water and bring a piece of fruit in your backpack. Eat it at the first break.» Valentina, in eleventh grade, says she now has a bottle with her name on it: «I fill it at home and I don't leave it anywhere.»

2. Between classes: move. You don't need a gym. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, stretch, or walk around the courtyard with a friend. «Five minutes of movement wakes me up more than a coffee», says Andrés, who plays on the basketball team.

3. In the afternoon: disconnect for a while. Notifications interrupt us all the time. The psychologist recommends silencing your phone while you do homework: «Don't look at it every two minutes. Put it face down or leave it in another room. You'll finish faster and with less stress.»

4. At night: prepare for rest. Getting enough sleep is one of the best things you can do for your body and mind. Before going to bed, turn off screens, pack your backpack for the next day and write three good things about the day in a notebook. «At first it seemed strange», Valentina admits, «but now it helps me sleep more calmly.»

5. Always: don't keep it to yourself. We all have hard days. Dr. Ruiz insists: «If something worries you, tell it to someone you trust: a friend, a family member, a teacher or the counseling team. Asking for help isn't a weakness; it's a way of taking care of yourself.»

None of these habits is magic, and you don't have to do them all at once. Choose one this week. Which one are you going to try first?
