Unit 5: Technology and society — How does technology change the way we communicate and live together?
6:30 The phone alarm rings. Andrés reads the family group chat: his grandmother sends 'Good morning!' with a photo of flowers. 7:15 On the bus he listens to music and watches short videos. 11:00 In biology he uses an app for a quiz. 17:00 He does homework with a classmate on a video call. 21:00 He talks with his cousin in Chicago by voice messages. 23:30 He's still on his phone! Tomorrow he'll be tired…

¿Qué me molesta?
Hi! I'm Valentina and I live in Lawrence. I use my phone for everything. In the morning I listen to music on the bus and read the messages in my family group chat. My aunt lives in Santo Domingo and always sends us super-long voice messages. I love her audios because they're really funny. I don't post much, but I like uploading photos of my drawings to my account. It's a private account: only my friends follow me. I'm interested in art tutorials, so I follow several artists from Mexico and Colombia. Sometimes I download apps to edit photos, but many are expensive. What bothers me? Negative comments bother me. When someone writes something cruel, I delete it and don't answer. I'm also worried about the time I spend in front of the screen: sometimes it's six hours a day! Talking with my family in person matters a lot to me, so I don't use my phone during dinner.
