IMPORTANT: the survey in this lesson is an invented example with rounded numbers, written for practice — tell students explicitly that these are not real statistics. Recycles the present perfect (Days 82–83: ha aumentado, han dormido, ha conseguido) and Day 81 vocabulary. If you saved the Day 83 class tallies, display them during the reflection.

You'll read about a survey of young people in Spain, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina. What do most use their phone for? How many hours a day? Write your prediction.
Example survey — invented, rounded figures for class practice.
Encuesta inventada para practicar en clase. Los números no son estadísticas reales.
Example survey of 1,000 young people aged 14–18 (invented, rounded data): send messages 90%, watch videos 80%, listen to music 75%, do homework 55%, play video games 45%, post photos or videos 25%.

Our journalism club has prepared an example survey for Spanish class. We imagined the answers of a thousand young people aged 14 to 18 from Spain, Mexico, Colombia and Argentina. The numbers are rounded and hypothetical, but they resemble what many young people say.
The main result is clear: most are very connected. Seven out of ten young people use their phone more than four hours a day outside school, and the average goes up on weekends. Almost all (90%) send messages every day, mostly through WhatsApp. But only a quarter post photos or videos. In other words, young people watch much more than they post.
What has changed? 60% say their screen time has increased in the last two years. Many have also started using their phone to learn: half have watched tutorials for school this month.
There are also concerns. Four out of ten say they have slept less because of using their phone at night. A third have tried to reduce their time with apps that limit hours, and half of them have succeeded.
Lucía, 16, from Seville, explains: «I've turned off my phone's notifications and now I sleep better.» Tomás, 17, from Bogotá, disagrees with the criticism: «Thanks to my cell phone, I've talked every day with my dad, who works in Miami.»
In the end, the survey leaves us with an important question: is the number of hours more important, or what we do with the screen?
