Pacing guide: Grammar Build · Presentational · Grammar: Si + present → future (Si estudio, podré…) · Product: Exit ticket
- Observa el patrón (7 min): Poll first. Let students state the rule before showing the key.
- La regla (7 min): Walk through the table. Stress: si (if) has no accent; sí (yes) does. Comma normally when the si-clause comes first; usually no comma when the result comes first.
- ¿Correcta o no? (6 min): Students sort individually, then compare with a partner. Ask volunteers to correct 2 wrong sentences aloud.
- Ejemplo guiado (5 min): Reveal steps one at a time; students predict the next step on whiteboards before you click.
- Práctica (10 min): Fill-in individually, then MC. Review any «si + futuro» errors as a class.
- ¿Mito o realidad? (7 min): Students vote with fingers (1 = mito, 2 = realidad) before you click. Do the Prueba orally.
- Úsalo (8 min): «Cadena de consecuencias»: groups of 4 build chains orally (Si no duermo, estaré cansado/a. Si estoy cansado/a…). Then question roulette in pairs.
- Boleto de salida (5 min): Exit MC + one written sentence + confidence check.
Introduces si + present → future (Grammar Map: Day 144; recycled Day 145, assessed Quiz Day 151). Only real/likely conditions today; contrary-to-fact si-clauses (si tuviera…, haría) are not taught in Spanish 3 — if a student asks, say «Eso lo veremos en Español 4». Also flag that si + present subjunctive (*si tenga) is a common error after Units 5–6. Recycles the future (Day 142), profession vocabulary (Day 141) and affirmative tú commands (Unit 4).

My name is Lucía and I live in Springfield. This summer I want to work as a lifeguard at the city pool. If I pass the first-aid course, the pool will hire me. If they hire me, I'll earn about three thousand dollars over the summer. If I save half, I'll be able to pay for my first-year college books. But there's a problem: if I don't finish my chemistry project before June, I won't have time for the course. That's why this month I'll study every afternoon. My mom says: «Sweetheart, if you get organized, you'll achieve it all.» I hope she's right!
If I study, I'll be able to go to college.
2La regla
Oraciones con si: situaciones reales o probables
| Condición (si + presente) | Resultado | English |
|---|---|---|
| Si trabajas mucho, | tendrás éxito. (futuro) | If you work hard, you'll be successful. |
(futuro) | If my parents give me permission, I'll take a trip with my friends. |
| Si no salimos ahora, | vamos a llegar tarde. (ir a + infinitivo) | If we don't leave now, we're going to be late. |
| Si tienes preguntas, | llámame. (mandato) | If you have questions, call me. |
| Si hace calor, | vamos a la playa. (presente: costumbre) | If it's hot, we go to the beach. (habit) |
si = if · sí = yes
Never use the future or the present subjunctive after si (= if). si = if, sí = yes.
The order can change; the meaning stays the same. If I get a scholarship, I'll study in Puerto Rico.

5Práctica
Completa: ¿presente o futuro?
Look at where the blank is: after si (present) or in the result (future).
Elige la mejor opción
Si mis amigos me invitan, ___ al partido.
¿Qué oración es correcta?
«You'll be tired if you don't sleep.»
6¿Mito o realidad?
Errores comunes con las oraciones con si. Vota: ¿mito o realidad? Common mistakes with si-clauses. Vote: myth or fact?
Igual que en inglés: If I have money, no If I will have money.
Correcto: Si me aceptan, iré. / Iré si me aceptan.
